Playing videos from USB on a Fire TV Stick

With an OTG adapter a Fire TV Stick reads a USB stick — but older models want FAT32, and DTS only passes through to a receiver.

4 Save to the stick or a folder

Long batch? Leave the tab open and visible — the screen is kept awake. If the tab is closed, open the page again and press “Continue”: finished files are skipped.

Limits that matter

Fire TV Stick Lite/HD: hardware HEVC Main 10 up to 1080p60 per Amazon’s specs, but 10-bit HEVC has been unreliable in practice on older sticks.
DTS and DTS-HD: passthrough only — no sound on TV speakers.
2nd-gen sticks recognised only FAT32 drives in user reports.

Which app plays files from USB?

Any file manager or player that can open USB storage — VLC, Kodi or X-plore. With CompressLab files even the simplest player works.
