Where the 2 MB limit comes from
2 MB is a classic default for upload fields in web forms, CMS plugins and support widgets, and for attachments on older corporate mail servers. It is tiny for video: think of it as a budget for a short clip, not a whole recording.
What fits into 2 MB
The compressor splits the size between picture and sound: about 96 kbit/s go to the sound, the rest to the picture. The longer the video, the fewer bits each second gets, so the resolution goes down to keep the picture clean rather than blocky:
| Length | Picture bitrate | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| 15 seconds | 887 kbit/s | 480p |
| 30 seconds | 395 kbit/s | 360p |
| 1 minute | 150 kbit/s | 240p |
| 3 minutes | — | too low: trim it |
The target on this page is 1.9 MB — a little under 2 MB, because sites count megabytes differently and some add a few kilobytes on upload.
Getting the most out of 2 MB
- Trim first (Advanced settings → Trim, split & name). Ten seconds at 720p look far better than a minute at 240p.
- No speech? Untick “Keep sound” — it frees about 12 KB per second for the picture.
- Screen recordings fit much more: still screens need very few bits.
How it works
- Add one or more videos — or a whole folder.
- The size is already set to 1.9 MB. Every video is compressed to fit it; short clips that already fit keep their quality.
- Press Compress. Everything happens in your browser: the video is never uploaded, so there is no file size limit and no queue.
Questions
How long can a 2 MB video be?
About 15 seconds at 480p or 30 seconds at 360p with sound. A full minute drops to 240p — trim it or remove the sound.
Why is my 2 MB video blurry?
The clip is too long for 2 MB. Trim it to the part that matters, or remove the sound.
Is the video uploaded to compress it?
No. It is compressed on your device; nothing leaves your computer or phone.
