A Kapwing alternative for compressing and trimming videos
Kapwing is a collaborative online editor. On the free plan exports are 720p with a Kapwing watermark, up to 4 minutes long and 30 minutes a month, and uploads up to 2 GB. If you only need to make a video smaller or cut it, CompressLab does that on your device with no such limits.

When Kapwing is the better choice
- You are editing, not just compressing: captions styling, templates, team workspaces, stock media.
- Several people need to work on the same project in the browser.
When CompressLab is the better choice
- Your video is longer than 4 minutes, or you need 1080p or 4K without paying.
- You want no watermark and nothing to sign in to.
- You need a file under a specific size — Discord, email, WhatsApp, a school portal.
- You want to cut a clip without re-encoding: CompressLab’s trimmer copies the original frames, so quality stays exactly the same.
What CompressLab can’t do
- Speed depends on your device: a recent laptop compresses an hour of 1080p in minutes, an old phone is much slower.
- It needs a modern browser — Chrome, Edge or Opera, Safari 16.4+ or Firefox on a computer. Firefox on Android can’t encode video yet.
- It is a set of focused tools (compress, trim, subtitles, TV), not a full editor with text, music and transitions.
Try it
Drop a video on the compressor, pick what it is for — Discord, email, WhatsApp, “free up space” — or set your own size, and press Compress. No account, no upload, no watermark.
