An 8mb.video alternative that doesn’t upload your clips
8mb.video is a simple, much-loved way to get a gaming clip under Discord’s limit: pick a size, upload, download. It processes clips on its server and deletes them after 90 minutes. CompressLab does the same job without the upload — and with any size you like.

When 8mb.video is the better choice
- Your clip is online already — 8mb.video can take a link instead of a file.
- Your device or browser can’t encode video.
When CompressLab is the better choice
- You have many clips: add a folder of highlights and get them all under 10 MB in one go.
- You don’t want to wait for an upload on a slow connection — compression starts immediately.
- You need sizes above 200 MB, such as 500 MB for X or a school portal.
- You want to trim the highlight first without re-encoding, or burn in subtitles.
What CompressLab can’t do
- Speed depends on your device: a recent laptop compresses an hour of 1080p in minutes, an old phone is much slower.
- It needs a modern browser — Chrome, Edge or Opera, Safari 16.4+ or Firefox on a computer. Firefox on Android can’t encode video yet.
- It is a set of focused tools (compress, trim, subtitles, TV), not a full editor with text, music and transitions.
For Discord specifically see Compress video for Discord — it is set to Discord’s current 10 MB free limit.
